The IDTA Seminar took place in the University of Leicester from Saturday 28th July until Wednesday 1st August. It was a superb seminar with lectures on all theatre branch subjects’ ballet, tap, theatre craft, modern jazz, freestyle and musical theatre. Lectures were both technical and free work. The Leicester seminar is a great opportunity for teachers to see new syllabi, get new ideas, chat to theatre committees and meet other teachers from England and Europe. In the evenings we were entertained by Keith Holmes (IDTA Company Secretary) with a ballroom and salsa night, Beryl Thomas with a theatre and general knowledge quiz, and Lisa and Ian had us all dancing with our “Pump up the Volume” night. On the last day we were in for a big treat with two amazing lectures, it is tradition that the Wednesday lectures are memorial lectures to Gladys Thorpe and Bernard Gale. Sandra Dowling gave us a beautiful lecture on Spanish folk dancing and Andrew Chadwick gave a wonderful class, teaching us a dance from the musical which he is currently performing in “Tanz der Vampire”.
