On Sunday 5th March the IDTA All Ireland Theatre Branch hosted their annual Dance Day in The Abbey Hotel, Roscommon. Students from the Mayo School Of Ballet, Castlebar; the Peelo School of Dance, Longford and Roscommon, and Sinead Leonard School of Dance , Carrick on Shannon and Galway; took part in the Master classes.
Ms Anne Maher, Director of Ballet Ireland and also an IDTA Teacher gave the Ballet Lectures, including repertoire from Swan Lake and Les Sylphides. Ms Anne gave fantastic classes and explained everything so clearly and with great insight to the students, it was marvellous that our students from the Midlands and West of Ireland were able to learn some repertoire from two of the great classics from one of Ireland’s professional ballerinas.
Mr Philiip McTeggart Walsh, principal teacher with the Cork Arts Studio and also an IDTA Teacher gave the Freestyle Hip Hop class. It was interesting for the students to go from Classical Ballet into “letting their hair down and shaking it out” for freestyle. That’s one of the great assets of being a member of IDTA , our organisation offers such a wide range of subjects that our students get the opportunity to adapt their bodies to a variety of dance. Philip’s lectures incorporated the latest dance moves to the latest hits. All students and teachers alike thoroughly enjoyed his classes.
We hope both teachers will come back and give another course; and from all the IDTA Teachers that attended the master classes, thank you both very much. |
